5 Daily Habits To Increase Your Imaan

Almost all muslims experience an ‘iman dip’ at some point in their lives.  Becoming lazy too lazy to do good deeds, neglecting the sunnah, finding difficulty in remembering  Allah (SWT) and making dhikr, desiring wealth and status after being a very active and productive Muslim- by performing salat on time, frequently reading the Qur’an, always looking for opportunities to do good deeds, etc.

As Muslims, our iman is constantly being tested by Allah (SWT) and sadly, we do fail sometimes and that lessens our iman. This means a reduction in our enthusiasm to worship Allah (SWT). Luckily for us, there are ways to refresh, increase and establish our Iman.

1. Repent

We (humans) were created to be imperfect beings and no one is without sin in this world, no matter how small. Committing sins no matter how small takes a toll on our heart and soul and decreases our iman and leads us astray. Allah, the most merciful, has said “Seek forgiveness of your Lord and then turn to Him in repentance”.

2. Perform Salah Regularly

Among the five pillars of Islam is the performance of Salah. Not only are we performing an obligatory deed, we are also nurturing our iman by establishing a direct link between ourselves and Allah (SWT). The benefits of performing Salah are numerous, one being it helps us enjoin good and forbid evil.

As narrated by Jabir ibn Abdallah (RAA), the Messenger of Allah (SWT) said, “: The similitude of five prayers is like an overflowing river passing by the gate of one of you in which he washes five times daily. Hasan said: No filthiness can remain on him. (Sahih Muslim Book 4, Hadith # 1411)

3. Read (or listen to) the Qur’an

What better way to increase our iman than by reading the book of Allah (SWT)!  This will remind you of Allah, his commandments and guide you towards righteousness. In fact, Research has shown that the Holy Qur’an has healing qualities on the body, mind and spirit. Reading or listening to the Qur’an will eleviate us in this world and the next.

Hazrat Abu Huraira radhiyallahu anhu reports that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Whoever listens to one verse of the Book of Allah, a good deed that multiplies continuously is recorded. And one who reads a verse of the Quran, that verse will be a Noor for him on the Day of Judgment.”

4. Fasting voluntarily

Fasting gives our soul this special feeling of purity. There are so many benefits of fasting to our heart, soul, and mind so it can be thought of as a prescription. It weakens the effects of evil whispers of shaytan and helps us control our unlawful desires, improve our self-discipline and it strengthens our bod with Allah (SWT).

5. Remembering Death

Allah (SWT) has said in the Qur’an that every soul shall taste death. It doesn’t matter where or who you are or how old you are, you will die eventually. The remembrance of death will revive our enthusiasm to do good and gain the pleasure of Allah (SWT) so as to enter Jannah (paradise).

Allah Almighty says, “Every self will taste death. You will be paid your wages in full on the Day of Rising. Anyone who is distanced from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, has triumphed. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of delusion,” (3:185)

Other good deeds like helping the poor, seeking knowledge, visiting the sick, comforting the bereaved, making supplications to Allah and putting our trust in Allah (SWT) also go a long way in increasing our iman and leading us in the path of righteousness, the path of Allah (SWT)
