Ali and The Armor

In the book of Subulus Salam, the work of al-Shan'ani is told, one day, Caliph Ali ibn Abi Talib was walking in the city of Medina. He monitored all situations and conditions of the people of Medina. Unexpectedly, at that time he saw someone was wearing armor.

Ali recognized the armor. He was very sure the armor was his, which had been lost some time before during the Shiffin War.

Without waiting for time, Caliph Ali went straight to the person concerned and was known to be a Jew. Ali said the armor was his.

Of course the sudden arrival of Caliph Ali surprised the Jew. "This armor belongs to me that fell from my camel (Awraq) during the Shiffin War," Ali said.

The Jew rejected Ali's statement, and he defended the armor he was holding with convincing arguments. "No, this armor is mine," he said.

Because they claimed each other, the two agreed to take the case to the justice court. The judge who was the judge was Shuraih bin Al-Harits Al-Kindi Rahimahullah, and was a close friend of Caliph Ali.

At the justice court, Ali sat on the side of Shuraih. While the Jew sat in front of them. Ali said he wanted to sit next to the Jew, but he was reluctant.

Ali also complained about a matter of debate between him and the Jew. "O judge, I sue this Jew because he has mastered my armor, without my knowledge," Ali told Shuraih.

Shuraih turned to the Jew and asked, "Is it true that Ali's accusation, the armor in your hand is his?" The Jew refuted it. "No, judge. This armor belongs to me, "he said.

Ali looked emotional and accused the Jew of lying. "He is lying, the armor is mine, and I am very familiar with the armor," Khalifah Ali stressed.

Syuraih also interceded so that Ali would not be too long. "Look, Brother Ali bin Abi Talib. As seen, the armor is now in Jewish control. So, if you claim the armor is yours, you must submit two witnesses or other evidence. "

Ali was ready with Shuraih's request. He also showed his two children, Hasan and Hussein to be his witnesses. However, the two witnesses appointed by Ali turned out to be rejected by Shuraih.

"The testimony of biological children, whatever the amount, is not valid according to applicable law. So, if there is no other evidence, your accusation is null and void, and this armor belongs to the Jews absolutely, "said Shuraih.

Because he could no longer show any other evidence, Ali accepted the verdict that had been decided by Shuraih who was appointed by the two to be the court between them.

Al Khalifah Ali, who is also the head of state, was dropped by the court. And the armor, remains in the hands of the Jew.

Ali also accepted it gracefully, even though the witness he wanted to submit was very aware of the actual case. However, because it is considered part of 'nepotism', his testimony is not justified.

Witnessing the attitude of Ali who was gracefully, the heart of the Jewish knocked. He also admitted that the armor belonged to Ali, who had fallen during the Shiffin War. He then made a shahada. Allah knows best.
