The Story of Umar Who Helped a Woman Who Wants to Give Birth

It is said, that one day Umar bin Khattab went out for a walk on the edge of Medina City. It was night already. Before long, Umar bin Khattab met a Bedouin Arab male. Usually Bedouin Arabs move their place of residence, not settled.

When Umar bin Khattab passed by, the Bedouin was making pegs for tent ropes. He did not know that the person passing by was Umar bin Khatab. Umar also said his greetings and the person returned his greetings.

Umar bin Khattab also asked the man, who was he? Turns out he is a traveler. This man wants to rest because it is night.

But Umar heard the sound of a woman moaning in pain from inside the tent. It turned out that in the tent there was his wife who was wanting to give birth to her baby. This Badui man also does not know how to help his wife who will give birth.

"Do you want me to bring someone from Medina to help your wife give birth?" Umar also offered help.

The man also received help from Umar. Then Umar went home and called his wife to help the woman who was about to give birth earlier. Umar's wife was Umm Khultsum, the daughter of Ali ibn Abi Talib who was the grandson of the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.

"O Prophet's grandchildren, will you get the reward by helping a Muslim woman give birth at the end of the City of Medina?" asked Umar bin Khattab.

"Of course," answered Umar's wife.

Finally Umar bin Khattab departed with his wife in the middle of the night for the bedouin tent.

Then Umar's wife went straight into the tent and helped the woman give birth. While Umar and the Bedouin man sat together and talked, while waiting for the birth process to finish.

"O Amir al-mu'minin, give word to your friend that his wife has given birth." Exclaimed Umar's wife from the tent.
The man was surprised to hear the call Umar's wife by mentioning the title 'Amir al-mu'minin' and realized that the man who was helping him was Umar bin Khatab.

Instantly this bedouin man came down from his seat because of shame and fear.

"Calm down and sit down. This is my duty," Umar said.

After the process of giving birth to his wife was finished, Umar asked the Bedouin man to come to his house to be given assistance from Baitul Mall.
